Mike Forrester has to date had a successful career in Marketing, both in telecommunications Industry, particularly Vodafone and laterally the Entertainment Industry with his business expertise and marketing knowledge has to date established two Accountancy firms with similar trading practices. Both of these companies are still successfully trading.
Professor Dr. Robert Gutfrend-Walmsley. Having been forced into retirement, enhanced his book collecting hobby and now runs a second hand bookshop in south Manchester. This also provides an opportunity to sing his favourite Sinatra, Ella and Johnny Mathis songs to unsuspecting browsers.
Born in Budapest in 1938 he left in 1946 and lived in Newcastle upon Tyne where he attended Secondary Modern School leaving at age 15; moved to London undertaking an electrical apprenticeship. In 1959-61 did National Service in the Royal Engineers, was stationed in Germany passed his first O-level at the army HE centre in Bergen-Belsen and learned to speak German.
In 1963/4 trained as a youth worker at the National College and worked in a Durham mining village and in London. Read Sociology (with politics) at the University of Durham 1968-71. On completion gained post as lecturer Manchester Polytechnic teaching youth workers and social workers. Initiated a Comparative Social Policy programme with eight universities in Europe and United States which functioned for thirty years. The Fachhochule Hildesheim/Holzminden/Gottingen where I was visiting lecturer made me an Honorary Professor.
Studied pt at the University of Salford for an MSc degree and a Doctorate at the University of Manchester awarded 1995. Married for 42 years (first wife for twelve!) I have nine children and more grandchildren. Active in politics stood twice as a Parliamentary Candidate. In my free time help with a children's charity and am a volunteer tutor in Manchester Prison. |
